How Much Did You Say That Mailbox Costs?

In an economy that is considered to be in recession, gas prices are higher than they have ever been, banks are either being bought out or filing for bankruptcy protection, food prices seem to be climbing at an astounding rate, the stock market has lost more than 3,500 points in the last 2 years - and mailboxes that cost $350.00 to $395.00. What is this world coming to?If you look on the internet, you will find there are mailboxes selling up to and in some cases over $400.00. What? How can a mailbox be valued at $400.00? I know very well they cost that much because I own one.So what do you need to know before you spend that kind of money on an item that is a gathering place for bills and junk mail? Well in reality $400.00 for a mailbox might prove to be more beneficial to you than you think.Let's say you had a Ferrari Testerosa which you spent $175,000 to purchase. How much would you be willing to spend if something were to happen to it? Such as maybe a wreck or ripped seat or even a busted tail light? What if you chose to let the fender remain dented or the seat ripped or even the tail light busted? Do you think your investment would be worth what you paid for it?Let me give you another scenario. Let's say you purchased a 1957 Chevrolet that really was a fixer upper? How much would you be willing to spend to fix it up? What would this 1957 Chevy look like if you never spent a penny on it? What would it become if you just allowed it to sit in the back yard rusting away? Would you get your money out of it if you chose to do that? What about retirement? Let's say you only put $100 in an IRA and you never invested another single penny. How much do you think you would have by the time you retired? Do you think you would have enough to retire on?These are practical hypothetical situations that do occur. We all have fender benders (maybe not in a Testerosa) and we all have things that we would like to see accumulate in value. We make time investments, investments in our retirement, children, family and many others. These are all valuable to us so we put time, money and effort into them. You may be saying right now, "But these are things that are important. How in the world can you compare these things to a mailbox?" That is a great question and I have an even better answer. Spending over $300.00 on a mailbox may seem a bit high. However, I am not asking you to think about the mailbox, I am asking you to think about why you would buy the mailbox. You see, your home is an investment. It is probably the largest investment you will ever make. You put time, money and effort into your home to ensure your home will increase in value. Buying a cast aluminum mailbox is like buying the "new fender for your Testerosa," "the things needed to replenish that 1957 Chevy," or the "right investments for your IRA." You see, buying a mailbox is not something you do because you need a mailbox. Buying a mailbox can add value to your home therefore adding money to your bottom line.I challenge you one day to drive into a community that has standardized mailboxes. Look at the community and the homes. Now, I want you to picture what these homes would look like with just a standard mailbox out in front of them. Picture in your mind whether these homes would have more or less value if they had just a standard mailbox. So what do you think? Now, picture your home. Picture your mailbox. Are you getting the most value out of your home? If you do not have a quality decorative mailbox that enhances your home's value, then you are not getting the most value out of your home. The mailbox has a purpose. That purpose is to bring value to your home buy adding value to your curb. Mailboxes are the centerpiece of your curb appeal. There are many articles on the internet about curb appeal and I recommend that you research these. Or, call local realtors and ask them about the importance of curb appeal. You will soon find out that the money you spend on curb appeal will reward you in the value of your home. $400 for a mailbox? That's nothing compared to the value it will give your home.So do you still think $400 is a lot to spend on a mailbox? Maybe you do. But the truth is, a mailbox is the centerpiece of your curb appeal and curb appeal is the centerpiece of your home's value.
